Pursuant to Colorado Revised Statutes, the Evans Police Department is providing relevant information about a sexually violent predator who recently moved into the community. Information regarding the sexually violent predator will be posted on the Evans Police Department website at www.evanscolorado.gov/police. The goal of the information is to enhance public safety and protection.
The subject who has been deemed a sexually violent predator (SVP) has been convicted of a sex offense that requires law enforcement registration. Further, he has been determined to present a high potential to re-offend and is therefore, subject to community notification regarding his residence in this community.
Vigilantism, or use of this information to harass, threaten, or intimidate any of the following people is criminal behavior and will not be tolerated: the offender, the offender’s significant others or the offender’s other family members.
This law enforcement agency has no legal authority to direct where a sex offender may live. Unless court restrictions exist, they are constitutionally free to live wherever they choose. Sex offenders are required by law to notify law enforcement of their residence and law enforcement is authorized to share that information with members of their communities. In the case of sexually violent predators, law enforcement is required to notify members of the community of the offender’s address.
The posted information includes the offender’s identity, a photograph of the offender, and his address. Additional information includes educational information about sex offenders and their management, safety tips for parents and children, and additional resource information.
